Mission Beach Real Estate
A two mile sliver of land connecting San Diego to the Pacific Ocean, Mission Beach offers some of the finest beachfront living in San Diego today. Mission Beach is built on a sandbar that stretches from Pacific Beach in the north down to Mission Bay in the south. These two ends are called, respectively, North Mission and South Mission. Residents of Mission Beach enjoy amazing ocean front views and quick access to the beach.
Mission Beach is perhaps the most popular beach destination in San Diego, attracting locals and tourists alike. The most famous Mission Beach tourist destination has to be Belmont Park. Originally opened in 1925 as the Mission Beach Amusement Center, Belmont Park has undergone several renovations over the decades, always remaining the top tourist draw in Mission Beach. The Park’s Giant Dipper roller coaster is something of a historical landmark in Mission Beach. The wooden roller coaster began service back in 1925 and features a 73 foot drop that still thrills park-attendees to this day. Other attractions in Belmont Park include laser tag, bumper cars, tilt-a-whirl, carousel, restaurants, arcades, shops and much more.
The boardwalk at Mission Beach stretches 3 miles from South Mission to Pacific Beach and is teeming with joggers, bicyclists, roller-bladers and residents walking their dogs. Water-sports of all kinds (kayaking, swimming, surfing, body boarding, etc.) as popular in Mission Beach. The area has always been a beach volleyball mecca – parts of the iconic beach volleyball scene from the 1986 classic Top Gun were filmed here.
Mission Beach real estate has always been a hot commodity. Originally envisioned as a vacation hotspot, the first residential developments were vacation homes and summer cottages. People liked it here so much that most ended up staying. The median sales price for homes in Mission Beach for August 2014 was around $900,000 while the average listing price of a home during the same period was just over $2 million. Mission Beach real estate includes many vacation rental properties, both as condos as luxury beach-front single family homes.
